DAY 1 CUSCO – TINKI – UPIS
We will begin picking everyone up from their hotels at 4:00 a.m. and drive to the trailhead for approximately 3 hours along the Pan-American Highway and the Interoceanic Highway. We will then meet up with our muleteer and pack animals. Today, we will begin hiking along the north face of Ausangate and take a 3-hour walk to our first Upis campsite (4,200 meters above sea level) and enjoy the natural hot springs. Hiking distance: 10 km.
DAY 2 UPIS – PUKACOCHA – ANANTAPATA.
Today, after a nutritious breakfast, we will begin our ascent to the first pass of the day, Arapa (4,800 meters above sea level), taking us to the west face of Ausangate. We will then descend to the Pukacocha Valley, home to large lagoons. There, we will have lunch and then begin our ascent to the second pass, Apacheta (4,900 meters above sea level), which is the gateway to the valley of painted mountains and offers spectacular views of Huayna Ausangate and the west face of Ausangate. We will then descend for 2 hours to the second Anantapata campsite (4,600 meters above sea level). Hiking distance: 12 km.
DAY 3 ANANTAPATA – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – AUSANGATE COCHA
Today’s hike begins early in the morning to watch the sunrise over Rainbow Mountain. We then return to Anantapata Base Camp, have lunch, and then hike for another 2 hours to reach the overnight camp at Ausnagate Cocha, 4,400 meters above sea level. Hiking distance: 15 km.
DAY 4 AUSANGATE COCHA – SURAPATA – AZUL COCHA
Today’s hike will take you through the two main high passes: Palomani (5,200 meters above sea level) and Ccampa Pass (5,100 meters above sea level). You will travel from the south face to the east face, reaching the Valley of the Seven Lagoons. You will spend the night at Laguna Azul (Blue Lagoon) at 4,400 meters above sea level, where you will be able to see Mount Callangate, Qolqecruz, etc. Hiking distance: 15 km.
DAY 5 AZUL COCHA – PACCHANTA – CUSCO
Today, you’ll hike for two hours, leaving Ausnagate. Finally, you’ll enjoy the natural hot springs at Pacchanta, 4,200 meters above sea level. You’ll have lunch there, then drive back to Cusco for three hours, returning to Cusco between 3 and 6 pm at the latest.
