Choquequirao Cachora 4 Days

Day 1Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca

We leave early in the morning to the northwest of the city of Cusco (3350m) by transport towards the town of Cachora (2850m). On the way we will make a stop for breakfast before continuing to the start of the hike “Capuliyoc” where it is surrounded by mountains and the majestic snow-capped Padreyoc (5571m).

This is the meeting place with the muleteers and mules that will help us carry the camping equipment throughout the expedition from the Capuliyoq pass (2800m). Where we will have a spectacular view of the Apurímac canyon and part of the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex in the distance.

Which as a brief rest we will observe our path down that goes in a zigzag way along the edge of the mountain to the campsite that will be Chiquisca (1930m) a small town with a warm climate where we will have lunch and spend the night.

Day 2Chiquisca – Playa Rosalina – Marampata – Choquequirao

After having enjoyed our breakfast, we begin to descend for approximately thirty minutes to Rosalina Beach (1500m). From there we begin the ascent out of the canyon as soon as we can, in a warm climate to the town of Marampata (2850m), where we will have our camp with a beautiful view of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao.

The phenomenon of the sunset is enigmatic in Choquequirao accompanied by an Andean symbol known as the “Condor”, descending from the highest mountains of the Vilcabamba mountain range to the archaeological complex of Choquequirao (3033m).

Day 3 Choquequirao – Marampata – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisca

Early in the morning after breakfast we will watch the sunrise over the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, accompanied by a professional guide we will make a presentation concerning the history, ruins and recent excavations found.

Currently Choquequirao “Cradle of Gold” keeps many ancestral secrets, because at the moment only 30% of the ruins are restored. There is a project that is in charge of the restoration and it is speculated that in a few more years Choquequirao will be presented to the world in its entirety; that perhaps it will be a great attraction surpassing Machu Picchu itself.

After the visit to Choquequirao we find ourselves again in Marampata and for a moment in the depth of the Apurimac canyon (Playa Rosalina 1500m), to then continue ascending to the forest of our camp named Chiquisca (1930m).

Day 4Chiquisca – Paso Capuliyoq – Cusco

In the morning, we have a climb, in the middle of a dry scenery during the day and the temperature rises according to the sun setting on our path. Capuliyoq (2850m), is the place where we will take a short rest and our bus to Cusco observing the majestic Apurimac canyon and sometimes it is ideal to observe the flight of the Condor.

From the Capuliyoq pass the level of the route is calmer to enjoy an excellent view of the mountains and snow-capped peaks that are at the top of the mountain range. In the town of Cachora they await us with the best expectations of having returned from one of the best excursions in the Vilcabamba mountain range. Then we have a transport that will take us back to the city of Cusco.
